What Are Lip Fillers?

Lip fillers are a type of cosmetic treatment designed to enhance the shape, volume, and fullness of the lips. These injections involve the use of a gel-like substance that is carefully injected into the lips, creating a plumper and more defined look.

When and Why Did They Become So Popular?

Lip fillers have gained significant popularity over the past decade. Celebrities and social media influencers have played a big role in this trend, showcasing their enhanced lips and creating a desire for similar looks among their followers. The rise of non-surgical cosmetic procedures, which offer quick results with minimal downtime, has also contributed to the growing appeal of lip fillers.

NOTE: It is important to understand that while trends exists and certain celebrities have influence on what is popular, it is always down to you to decide what you want and why you are interested in this procedure. It is my code of ethics to ensure that you are doing this for your own reasons and that ultimately this treatment will benefit you in the best way possible.

What Is the Main Ingredient?

The primary ingredient in most lip fillers is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps keep skin hydrated and plump. We all have it. Its ability to hold moisture makes it an ideal filler material, as it can provide a natural-looking volume to the lips.

How Does It Work?

During the procedure, aesthetician uses a fine needle to inject the hyaluronic acid-based filler into specific areas of the lips. The procedure is relatively quick, often taking less than 30 minutes. The reason why an appointment is scheduled for one hour or more is to discuss your medical history, answer your questions, understand your goals and manage your expectations. The actual injecting procedure is not that long; however, time may vary depending on technique and your goal.

Once your procedure is finished you will be able to see the difference in your lips immediately. The filler adds volume and can also be used to enhance the shape and contour of the lips. It depends on what you are looking for.

However your final result will be seen in approximately 2 weeks’ time post procedure, once the swelling subsided and fillers settled in and bonded with your lips.

Non-Animal Based Ingredients

An important aspect of many modern lip fillers is that they contain no animal-derived ingredients. The hyaluronic acid used in these fillers is typically synthesized through a bio-fermentation process, ensuring that the product is both vegan-friendly and cruelty-free. This makes lip fillers an appealing option for individuals who are conscious about the ethical sourcing of cosmetic products.

At Modern Goddess Zone I use the most popular lip fillers, such as Juvederm, Restylane, Belotero, Teosyal and Lumifil that are made from hyaluronic acid and do not contain animal ingredients, making them suitable for individuals seeking vegan or animal-free products. This ensures that they can be used without concerns about animal-derived components, aligning with ethical preferences for many people.

What to Expect During the Procedure

If you decide to get lip fillers, here’s what you can expect:

  • Consultation: Before the procedure, you’ll have a consultation to discuss your goals and determine the right approach for you.
  • Preparation: On the day of the procedure, your lips will be cleaned, and a numbing cream may be applied to minimize discomfort.
  • Injection: The filler is carefully injected into specific areas of the lips. You might feel a slight pinch or pressure during this step.
  • Aftercare: Post-procedure, you might experience some swelling and bruising, but this typically subsides within a few days.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Lip fillers can be a good option for you if you:

  1. – Are looking to enhance the size or shape of your lips.
  2. – Have realistic expectations about the results.
  3. – Are in good overall health.

Who Are Lip Fillers NOT  for

Lip fillers might not be suitable for:

  1. – Individuals with active oral infections or certain medical conditions.
  2. – Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  3. – People with unrealistic expectations or those looking for drastic changes.

Keeping Your Expectations Real

It’s essential to have realistic expectations when considering lip fillers. While they can significantly enhance the appearance of your lips, they won’t drastically change your overall look or solve deeper insecurities.

It’s crucial to discuss your goals with me (or whoever you want to have your treatment with) and understand the potential results and limitations of the treatment.

Lip fillers can be an effective and relatively simple way to enhance your lips’ appearance. If you understand the process, know what to expect, and have realistic expectations, you can make a good and informed decision about whether this treatment is right for you. And you will most likely be happy with the results.

And, if you decide to do it – you’re most welcome to book in with me for you for a lip filler appointment in Hove, at Modern Goddess Zone.
